WAIP aims at total power reduction by 15% or above by Drag Reduction by Ultra Fine Microbubble emitted from each WAIP equipped at submerged hull surface.
Ultra Fine Microbubble is quite small compared with Microbubble generated by conventional ways by about 1/100.
WAIP makes use of well known natural phenomenon called Kelvin-Helmholtz Instability,which occurs when speed difference happens at the boundary between above light fluid and beneath heavy fluid,otherwise very stable.
This Instability occurs above WAIP wing.
Introduction of WAIP with air compressor
In case of ships of slow speed and/or large draft, the Instability doesn't occur above the wing, instead the boundary between above light fluid and beneath heavy fluid appears amidst of Air Induction Pipe.
For Ultra Fine Microbubble generation, the boundary should be pushed down above the wing by compressed air.
This application of WAIP assisted by compressor is called as WAIP with air compressor.
By this invention,every kind of displacement type ship can apply WAIP,whatever speed and whatever draft the ship may have.
Introduction of design calcualtion
Based on laboratory tests at FEL(Fluid Engineerigng Laboratory), RDE has a design calculation which showed very good conformity with actual ship data.
RDE can design WAIP number,allocation and compressor specification.
WAIP is for Drag Reduction and proves no conflicts with conventional energy-save devices.
